AWSUM.org.uk is starting to amass a small collection of reviews over at Rev.iew.me, and most are fairly positive. However, in the more recent ones, people are complaining that the navigation is too big and that it’s a little distracting from the main content. So, I’m considering making it a little bit smaller, in both width and font size (which would also make the main content area a little wider). You can preview what it looks like here.
Now, my question to you, dear reader, is this: Which do you prefer? The small navigation, or the big one I have now? People seem to have mixed opinions about the latter. Some love the big bold layout, while others don’t. So, please, comment with your opinion and whether or not you’d rather see a smaller navigation, with a little more room for content, or keep it the way it is?
Oh, and on that little preview page, you can also try out two new colour styles I’m thinking on adding: Licorice, for all you morbid folk out there, and Strawnana (strawberry and banana), which uses two different colours, rather than two shades of the same one.
Diana Says:
Those two new flavors sound delicious.
WHOA. I think it looks a million times better with a smaller sidebar. Do it! I don’t know about the content thing though. Either way is fine
Nicole Says:
I think you should take about 50 pixels off of the sidebar, make the sidebar text smaller like your sample, and fill in the big margin between your content and sidebar
Joe Says:
I guess I probably will make the text smaller then.
I’m gonna have a little mess around with spacing as well.
Sean Says:
Definitely the modified version.
Jem Says:
Have to agree that the sidebar on the new version is less distracting.
Aisling Says:
Oh yes, the smaller one looks MUCH better!
Aisling Says:
Oh! Oh! Double post!
I LOVE Srawnana. SO MUCH!
Vasili Says:
The smaller sidebar looks a lot better. The purple is still a little too bright.
Gary Says:
Joe Joe. Think, which Nav would Sephiorth use?
Joe Says:
One would imagine that Sephiroth wouldn’t have that much of an opinion on the matter, unless it somehow pertains to destroying the Earth.
Gary Says:
Why not make a JENOVA variation then.
That’ll get Sephiroth’s interest.
Joe Says:
Because JENOVA isn’t a form of food. Could you not guess that’s the theme I’m goin’ for here?
Aaron Says:
The new one looks better. Just the font looks a little pixel-y. But that’s easily fixed.
