Murphy, You Bastard!

So, guess what? My PS3 broke. Guess what else? The warranty ended less than a week ago. And unfortunately, it’s not a simple thing that I could just fix on my own. It’s pretty serious - the Blu-Ray laser’s broken. Which means I can’t play PS3 games on it.

Well, isn’t that great.

So I’ve fired an email off to Sony, asking them their advice on what to do. It’s inevitably going to have to be sent off to get fixed or replaced, but I can’t imagine either of those options being too cheap since I no longer have the safety net that is the warranty.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a truer example of Sod’s (Murphy’s) Law in my life.

Anyway, eye screening went fine yesterday. Was in and out in a couple of minutes. The photos get sent down to Aberdeen, so I have to wait an agonising month to find out whether or not my eyes have become damaged by the diabetes. Hopefully they won’t, since they’ve been fine the past three years.

Hopefully.

Anyway, I better scoot; I’ve got to leave for college in a few minutes. I have a mock Software Development assessment.

LittleBigWhatTheHell?

So. LittleBigPlanet, about the only game I’ve been genuinely excited for in a looong time has been pushed back a couple of weeks. Why? Because one of the songs from the soundtrack references a couple of lines from the Qur’an.

Seriously. What the hell? Apparently, Muslims don’t like having lines from their holy text put into song. So what? I hate how PC we’ve become on recent years. Are Sony that shit-scared that they’re going to have their headquarters bombed over something so trivial? Pfft. If anything, this recall is going to have the complete opposite effect - You can bet a whole ton of Muslim themed levels and Muhammad Sackboys are going to show up after release.

Anyway, looks like we’re all going to have to wait a while before you get it. I’m thinking on pre-ordering it, but trying to find out who offers the best free stuff with it. Gamestation offers a cool looking Sackboy toy free with a pre-order… Interesting…

I went away down to York for a week. Was alright. Mostly wandering through city centers, which gets a little tiring after a while. Also… Yorkshire has a severe lack of music shops (proper music shops, that sell guitars and shit, not like HMV). In York and Leeds, I only found one. One. And it wasn’t a great one either. I’ve been trying to get a bass guitar for the past few months now, but the one I have my heart set on (Washburn T14, Natural Stain, for those interested) cannot be found anywhere.

I also had a job interview last Friday. “Woo”, I thought. I might actually be getting somewhere with this job-hunting malarkey. The interview went pretty well, I thought. I did really well on their little test thing, and the interviewer seemed pretty happy with my answers to her questions and whatnot. I was told I’d be given a phone call within the next day. Still no phone call. Suffice to say, I don’t think I got the job. Damn. Guess it’s time to apply to Tesco again. Surely they must have something by now? A friend of mine recently got a job in the Costa Coffee that sits in our local Tesco. Might have to try there as well. How hard can it be to make coffee?

Back to college tomorrow. Wonderful.

People Are Idiots - Especially on eBay

Argh, the past little while hasn’t being going so great for me when it comes to buying stuff online. Two monumental fuck-ups in the space of a fortnight.

For the Software Development part of my college course, students are required to buy a massive 1000+ page book on Java to use as a reference during the course. I arrived into the course just over a week late, and so, everyone already had their copies. So I ordered mine off Amazon.

That was two weeks ago. What the hell? Maybe I should’ve had a proper look at the feedback from the seller I was buying from, but you don’t really think about that when you buy of Amazon. Checking of feedback is only really impulsive on eBay. And the feedback was pretty good. High percentage, lots of sales. Just, every now and then, you come across a comment such as “been a month. not received item”, or “ordered 3 weeks ago. order canceled and refunded without explanation.” So, If, I’ve not received the book by the weekend, I’m canceling the order, and buying it from the place I should’ve bought it from. My friend got it from there, and had it within two days. I only used Amazon, because I was saving like, 20p, and I already had an account set up, so it was a little more convenient.

Now, on to screw-up number 2, which just boggles the mind.

Surely you’ve heard of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith? Well, being a big Aerosmith fan, I’ve wanted the game ever since it was announced. But hell is I’m paying £40 for what is essentially a game I already own with some Aerosmith songs. So, I scoured eBay, trying to find it at a good price. Then, I thought I found the ultimate bargain.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith - game and guitar bundle, PS3. I won the auction, paying a mere £30 for it, plus a few quid more for postage. It took a good few days to arrive, and I was eagerly anticipating it’s arrival. When it did, nothing could describe my feelings any better than “WHAT THE FUCK!?”

The Guitar Hero: Aerosmith PS3 bundle was not what I had received.

I got the Wii version.

With no game.

Needless to say, I fired the seller an email fairly sharpish (although, I did remain fairly calm and polite). The seller apologised and insisted he didn’t know how that version was sold out. I assumed he was planning to sell the Wii version at some point in the future and the two got mixed up.

But no. He didn’t even have the fucking PS3 version. Now, I’m no expert on the subject, but I think that selling stuff you don’t actually have is a little bit… what’s the word? Illegal.

Anyway, he’s arranging for a courier to come and pick it up, and he’ll give me a refund. Which I better fucking get. He’s lucky that I’ve been fairly calm about the whole thing, and that he’s not getting anything more than negative feedback.

I think I’ll hold out on GH:A for now. Think I’ll buy BioShock or something instead when it comes out. From a retailer. Maybe then I’ll receive some piece of mind which seems to be few and far between for me lately.

Anyway, that’s enough about that. I’m thinking on changing the layout of the site. Gonna try and make a custom WordPress theme. It’s been months since I’ve done any real web development/design, and I need to get back into the swing of things. So expect something new soon.

Maybe. No promises.

Also, 3 blog posts in less than a week! Maybe getting back into blogging is a lot like quitting smoking; one you make it past 3 days, you’re fine from there on out. Maybe once I’ve done 3 posts, I’ll be back into the sing of things. Hopefully. :)
