Ah, looks like you’ve reached the obligatory “read all about me!” page. And here I am again, for what seems like the twentieth time writing it. And it never gets any easier. If you can’t be arsed reading through all this, skip straight to the summary.
My name is Joe1, and I am pretty awesome.
I’m your fairly standard Scottish teenager. My life is filled with music, video games, films and lots of alcohol. The usual stuff. I’m not ginger though, and no, I don’t like haggis. Yes, I’ve worn a kilt, most recently in August 2008 (It is not a skirt, goddammit!).
I’m pretty short. About 5′7″ to be exact. I’m also very light. I also weigh just under 9 stone (yet, I could eat for my country). I look a lot younger than my 18 years, which isn’t a good thing. Getting ID’d when buying a pint gets old pretty fucking quickly.
However, I differ from most in that I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2004. I’m not going to delve into it, but in a nutshell, I can’t ingest too much sugar and have to give myself insulin injections twice a day. Needless to say, my life was a little better before the diagnosis.
Educationally, I’ve sold myself short. During primary school and early secondary school I did pretty well academically, but I gradually started to lose interest as the years went by. I did however manage to finish school with 2 Highers in English and Geography and 2 As in Intermediate 2 Computing and Administration. I recently finished a HNC course in Computing, which I failed (out of choice, not through lack of competence, I hasten to add). The second semester was just the biggest heap of bullshit imaginable (”HEY GUISE LETS DO NOTHING BUT PROGRAMMING!!!!”). Unfortunately, I now have no idea what I want to do with my life. Currently, I’m planning on just taking a year off from the stresses of our educational system to relax and work, before possibly applying to University.
Most of my time is spent playing video games (I own around 10 consoles, including a PS3 and Xbox 360), listening to music, watching TV and movies, web designing, programming in PHP, spending time drinking with my friends and work colleagues. My current state of employment is working as a “Customer Service Assistant” at the co-operative.
I’ve been “web designing” (a term I use pretty loosely) on and off for about four years. It’s only the past year or so that I’ve come realise how important it is to adhere to the standards when it comes to web development - valid XHTML, CSS, accessibility, etc. Sorry teeny-boppers, but I’ve loooong since moved on from the 400px-wide, celebrity layout websites.
I’ve also developed an interest in PHP coding, even going as far as to develop simple web applications like shoutboxes, CMSs, etc. Nothing really worth mentioning though. They worked, but they were a mess. Even I had trouble comprehending some my code after a week or so of not working on it. Hopefully, the Software Development module in my college course will get me into the habit of making sure the formatting of my code is all lovely-jubbly. OH GOD NO.
I’m not in the least bit religious (although, I think the last census has me down as “Church of Scotland”. I’m tempted to put down “Pastafarian” in the next one. Look it up.). I don’t and never have believed in any God. Preachy religious people also annoy the fuck out of me. People are entitled to believe what they want, but so am I. Just don’t try to convert me and we’ll get on fine. On a slightly related note, I believe the Westboro Baptist Church are all going to hell (har har, see what I did there?).
So, to summarise: I am totally, completely fucking awsum.
1 NOT Joseph, before you ask. It’s also well-known that calling me that annoys the hell out of me.
